The California Highway Patrol is making a dent in its staffing shortage. A class of 119 officers will join the force today. That’s the largest since a campaign started two years ago to fill one-thousand positions. The CHP even added an extra academy class to make four total at a time. Still, the agency admits it can’t keep up with the amount of officers retiring. The hiring process stalled when COVID hit and hasn’t yet recovered.
