The program manager of the Petaluma Health Center says a mischaracterized fee prevented him from running for office. The Press Democrat reports that Eliot Enriquez was looking to run for a seat on the board of the Healthy Petaluma District when he was told about a $2,129 filing fee. However, he later found out that the fee described to him was in fact an optional fee for submitting a candidate’s ballot statement. Enriquez was not able to file in time and believes the fee was a way to discourage him from running.
