California’s Attorney General Doesn’t Take Position on Prop 36

California Attorney General Rob Bonta is not taking a position on Proposition 36.  When pressed on the ballot measure, Bonta, who has been considering a run for governor, said it’s his department’s job to write the title and summaries of each proposition.  Because of that, he says he cannot officially support or oppose any particular measure.  Prop 36 would enhance penalties for some drug crimes and repeat thieves.  It has overwhelming voter support, while Governor Gavin Newsom publicly opposes the proposition.
