California Air Resources Board Soon to Vote on Updating Fuel Standards for Oil Companies

The California Air Resources Board is less than three weeks away from voting on a rules change that could increase the price of gasoline. Three days after the General Election, the unelected body of regulators will vote on updating the Low Carbon Fuel Standards for oil companies, a cost that will likely be passed along to the consumers. Last year, CARB estimated that cost to be 45 cents per gallon by 2025, but in recent weeks said there is no relationship between the rules and prices at the pump. Lawmakers and members of the news media have accused CARB of lacking transparency. As of Friday, the board, overseen by Governor Gavin Newsom’s Administration, had not answered calls to provide updated details.
