Sonoma County Superior Court Judge James Bertoli is being publicly reprimanded by a California state judicial panel. California’s Commission on Judicial Performance says Bertoli committed improper political conduct when he publicly spoke out and advocated against an effort to change the name of Sebastopol’s Analy High School. Bertoli is an Analy alumnus, former baseball coach and longtime announcer at its sports games. He highly criticized a 2021 effort by the West Sonoma County Union High School Board to change the name of the school to West County High School. The panel also ridiculed Bertoli for “improper social media conduct that demeaned the judicial office.”
