Sonoma County rescues teams at Bodega Dunes Beach 11-4-24 (Sonoma Sheriff)

A man is dead and another man remains missing after a boat capsized off Bodega Head. A hiker called authorities just after seven o’clock Monday morning, after witnessing the 20-foot boat sink near Mussel Point. The body of the man who died was found on Bodega Dunes Beach. The boat, a Boston Whaler, later became lodged in the sand on the southern part of South Salmon Creek Beach, while upside down. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office says the men were not residents of Sonoma County. Though Saturday was the start of recreational Dungeness crab season, it’s unclear if the men were crabbing at the time of the accident.

Before that, a 21-foot boat capsized sometime Saturday afternoon or evening. Five family members and a friend were onboard that boat. One person, a teenager, has been found dead and another person, the young boy, has been rescued, while four other people, including another child, remain unaccounted for. Authorities say the boy who survived floated ashore while clinging to an ice chest. High wind gusts have been causing tall waves along the coast.
