Commercial Dungeness crab fishing season is now underway along most of the California coast.
The season, in all but two zones, opened early Sunday morning. The season is usually expected to start in November, but whales were once again in the fishing area. Opening day was delayed by about two months due to concerns about whales getting tangled up in fishing gear.
Crab fishing zones one and two, spanning the area from just south of Point Arena to the Oregon border, will open on January 15th.
