North Bay activists are celebrating President Biden’s ban on new oil and gas drilling in federal waters, including off the entire coast of California, Oregon and Washington.
The ban, announced Monday, protects close to 630-million acres of offshore areas from new drilling. Bodega Bay activist Richard Charter is a senior fellow at the Ocean Foundation. He does not believe the president’s move can be reversed or undone. He tells the Press Democrat he feels “entirely comfortable” that the action is “Trump-proof,” alluding to President-elect Trump, who takes office in less than two weeks.
Democratic Representative Jared Huffman of San Rafael is also praising Biden’s decision.
