A carjacking suspect led Santa Rosa Police on a foot chase Tuesday night, culminating in a confrontation where the suspect fired a handgun at officers.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Emilio Torres, fled on foot. During the chase, Torres fired a single shot from a handgun. Officers continued the pursuit and apprehended Torres after a brief struggle. A loaded handgun and a butterfly knife were recovered.
Police Chief John Cregan expressed concern over the increase in illegal firearms, particularly “ghost guns,” seized in the city. He commended officers for their restraint despite the dangerous situation.
