Sebastopol’s Homeless Population Struggling With New Ordinance Enforcement

Sebastopol faces an ongoing challenge with a growing number of homeless individuals living in RVs along Gravenstein Highway North.

After a legal battle, the city is now enforcing an ordinance prohibiting RV parking on public streets during daylight hours. Residents and businesses have expressed concerns about the impact of the encampments, citing issues like litter and safety.

Homeless individuals, however, face significant obstacles in complying with the new rules, including lack of affordable housing options, transportation issues, and limited access to resources. Many individuals lack the means to move their vehicles or find alternative shelter.

The city is issuing citations and has warned of potential vehicle tows, but the long-term solution to this complex issue remains unclear.
