Latest on the LA Fires

The Palisades Fire has burned 23-thousand-713 acres of land and is 18 percent contained. That is a slight increase in containment from Tuesday morning. The fire has killed a confirmed nine people and injured three others. CalFire says fire growth was moderate on Tuesday, but there is still a potential for significant growth. Firefighters contended with 30 to 40-mile-per-hour winds for most of the day, with humidity between 12 and 20 percent. A Red Flag Warning remains in place through six o’clock tonight.

The Eaton Fire has burned 14-thousand-117 acres of land and is 35 percent contained. Containment is up slightly from Tuesday morning. The fire has killed a confirmed 16 people and injured six others, including five firefighters who were hurt. CalFire says containment efforts are progressing on the eastern edge of the fire, near Santa Ana Canyon. Helicopters continue to drop water and fire-retardant in steep terrain near Mount Wilson.

The Auto Fire in Oxnard has burned 61 acres of land and is 47 percent contained. The fire started Monday night, in the Santa Clara River bottom between the River Ridge Golf Club and the Buenaventura Golf Course, south of the 101 Freeway. The wind-driven fire forced evacuations for people living in a homeless encampment in the river bottom area. Forward progress has been stopped. There are no reports of injuries or structural damage.
