Southern California Prepares For Possible Thunderstorms

California authorities are scrambling to protect the recently burned areas of Los Angeles County from possible mudslides. Forecasters say some rain could hit the area in the coming days, which has people in the areas destroyed by the Palisades and Eaton fires very nervous.

Southern California is facing a 60-80% chance of rain on Saturday. There’s also a chance of localized thunderstorms, which could drop up to an inch of rain. The concern is that such rain could cause massive mudslides or debris slides in those areas where homes have been burned down to rubble by the fires. Strong winds are expected to return to L.A. and Ventura counties today and tomorrow.

As of last update from Cal Fire, the Palisades Fire has burned over 23,000 acres and is 61% contained, while the Eaton Fire has burned over 14,000 acres and is 91% contained.
