Controlled Burn Scheduled For Audubon Canyon Ranch

Audubon Canyon Ranch plans to conduct a controlled burn on Wednesday, January 29th, as part of an effort to increase plant diversity in the forest.

The burn will take place at the Martin Griffin Preserve near Stinson Beach and is expected to last from 9 am to sunset. Residents in the area may see smoke and fire on the west-facing hillsides and ridge. Smoke and traffic delays are possible on Shoreline Highway 1.

The burn will be conducted by Audubon Canyon Ranch’s prescribed fire managers with support from local fire districts and the Good Fire Alliance. Crews will monitor the burn throughout the day and evening.

This controlled burn is part of Audubon Canyon Ranch’s ongoing efforts to restore redwood forests to a more resilient state.

By burning off the top layers of leaf litter and duff, the burn will help to promote understory plant diversity and help the redwoods to become old-growth in the future.
