Napa County Conducts Annual Point-In-Time Homeless Count

Napa County conducted its annual point-in-time homeless count this week, with teams fanning out across the county in the early morning hours.

Teams searched known encampment areas, including spots along the Napa River, noting the number of tents and individuals they encountered. While some past hotspots were less populated than before, the count provided a snapshot of the county’s homeless population. Last year, Napa County saw a significant decrease in homelessness, attributed to increased housing options and prevention efforts.

However, the rise in first-time homelessness remains a concern, highlighting the ongoing housing crisis. The county is focusing on prevention programs, like rental assistance, to keep people housed and avoid the more complex and costly process of rehousing those already experiencing homelessness. The final count data will be released later this year.
