A Petaluma bicyclist has died following a collision with a vehicle earlier this month.
The crash occurred on January 11th at the intersection of Industrial Avenue and Corona Road. A driver making a right turn struck the cyclist, who was approaching the intersection. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, stating they did not see the bicyclist. No arrests have been made at this time.
Police Sgt. Walt Spiller noted the collision occurred at a “slow speed,” though the exact speed is still under investigation. The bicyclist, 62-year-old Hugo Lopez of Rohnert Park, was not wearing a helmet and suffered a head injury. He was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he passed away on January 17th.
The Petaluma Police Department’s traffic unit is continuing to investigate this fatal collision.
