School Leaders & Law Enforcement In Sonoma Valley To Prioritize Safety Amid Federal Immigration Enforcement

In Sonoma Valley, law enforcement and school leaders are reassuring residents that they will prioritize the safety of everyone, regardless of immigration status, amidst ongoing concerns about federal immigration enforcement.

Sonoma Police Chief Brandon Cutting emphasized that local law enforcement does not participate in federal immigration enforcement. He stated that officers will always help, regardless of immigration status, and will not inquire about it. This stance is echoed in a letter signed by Sonoma County law enforcement chiefs.

The school district has updated its resolution to affirm its commitment to student safety and well-being, regardless of immigration status or other characteristics.

The district will provide resources and training on immigrant rights and relevant policies, and will not assist ICE without a warrant. They will also continue to welcome all students and families.
