The Petaluma City Schools district has a new acting superintendent. Dr. Louann Carlomagno, a veteran educator with 26 years of experience, has stepped into the role for the remainder of the school year.
Dr. Carlomagno brings a wealth of experience to Petaluma, including 15 years as a superintendent in the Bay Area, most recently in the Hillsborough School District. A Sonoma Valley native, her path to education began with a degree in genetics from UC Davis and a career as a protein biochemist.
Now, Dr. Carlomagno faces some key challenges in Petaluma, including a $2 million budget shortfall and concerns about immigration enforcement on school grounds. She’s committed to ensuring students feel safe and supported, emphasizing that their primary focus should be learning. She’s also actively engaging with the community, touring schools, and meeting with students and staff.
