Sonoma County now has a spending plan in place for its more than $16.1 million dollars in opioid settlement funds.
The spending plan was approved by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. The money will be spent on expanding local substance use services and programs, particularly treatment facilities. Sonoma County received part of a payout from a 2018 lawsuit that claimed pharmaceutical companies falsely advertised and misidentified the effects of opioids like oxycontin.
The county was one of thousands of plaintiffs in the national lawsuit.
