Another life has been lost to floodwaters in Sonoma County. 82-year-old Jeffrey Fox and his dog perished after his car was swept away on Mays Canyon Road during a recent storm.
This tragic incident echoes a similar death in 2023, highlighting the persistent dangers of flooding in the area. Mays Canyon Road, along with other low-lying roads near the Russian River, is a known high-risk flood zone. Despite warnings and the county’s efforts to post signs, drivers continue to venture into floodwaters.
The problem is compounded by the fact that road closures are often reactive, happening after flooding is reported, rather than proactively before.
