A pact has been reached that will govern continued water diversions from the Eel River into the Russian River.
It was reached by officials from Sonoma, Mendocino and Humboldt counties, and the Round Valley Indian Tribes. A memorandum of understanding will be signed in Sacramento today. It will allow for limited diversions to continue after PG&E decommissions its Potter Valley power plant.
But, the diversions will only happen when the Eel River has sufficiently high flows to accommodate different life stages of federally protected salmon and steelhead trout, and the diversions will mostly happen in the wintertime.
