Santa Rosa’s Providence Memorial Hospital Marked Celebrates 75th Anniversary With Schulz Dedication

Santa Rosa’s Providence Memorial Hospital marked a double anniversary on Tuesday. The hospital, celebrating its 75th year, officially dedicated a section of its fourth floor as “The Jean and Charles Schulz West Wing,” honoring the famed “Peanuts” creator.

This coincides with the 75th anniversary of the comic strip itself. Jean Schulz was on hand for the unveiling, expressing her appreciation for the hospital, which she and Charles, or “Sparky,” supported over the years. She shared a story about a Snoopy mural Charles drew on a hospital wall in 1982, later redrawing it when the original was lost during renovations.

The hospital also launched a “Peanuts PaintFest” in partnership with the Foundation for Hospital Art, with staff and patients contributing to themed murals that will be displayed throughout the facility. The murals, featuring beloved “Peanuts” characters, aim to brighten the hospital environment. Jean Schulz even joined in the painting, adding to the day’s festivities.
