Teachers in the Oak Grove Union School District are a step closer to walking off the job.
The teachers, who are members of the California Teachers Association, authorized a strike on Wednesday. The school district is made up of just two schools. More than 90% of the 46 teachers at Sebastopol’s Oak Grove Elementary School and Santa Rosa’s Willowside Middle School are in favor of striking. They are demanding a 7% salary increase and are threatening to strike if they don’t get it.
The district has a more than $2 million budget surplus but officials say they don’t have the funding to meet the request for raises.
