Memphis Grizzlies’ rookie Jaylen Wells is back in the North Bay.
On Monday, the former Sonoma State University star returned to campus in support of the fight to save the university’s athletic department.
Athletics is included in a series of major budget cuts being planned by administrators. All intercollegiate athletic programs are slated to be shut down by the end of the school year, in an effort to address a nearly $24 million budget deficit.
Wells was already in the Bay Area for NBA All-Star Weekend in San Francisco. He wore a pair of custom-made SSU shoes on the court during Friday night’s Rising Stars Challenge at Chase Center.
