A new program is aiming to open doors to top universities for students in the Napa Valley.
Napa Valley Unified School District has partnered with the STARS College Network, a consortium of 32 prestigious universities, to launch a pilot program providing comprehensive college advising.
Starting in spring 2025, students will receive one-on-one advising, financial aid guidance, and campus visits, all aimed at overcoming the hurdles rural students often face when applying to selective colleges. The STARS College Network, which includes institutions like Brown, Columbia, and UC Berkeley, aims to bridge the gap that sees rural students half as likely to attend top-tier schools compared to their urban counterparts.
Funded by Trott Family Philanthropies, the program is free to students and will also provide training for educators.
