Today, Santa Rosa City Schools trustees are expected to make a long-awaited final decision on which schools will close.
Yesterday, they took part in a final, five-hour study session before coming to an agreement. Trustees have narrowed their options down to two scenarios, neither of which is the same as the district’s original closure scenario.
The plan trustees spent the most time discussing would see the closure of three elementary schools, three middle schools and one high school. That is called the three-three-one scenario. Most trustees favored closing Elsie Allen High School. Another version of the three-three-one scenario would see the closure of Montgomery High School.
The closures would take place during the next three years.
Tonight’s pivotal meeting will be held at Santa Rosa City Hall, in the City Council chambers.
Recent meetings have been held in the thousand-seat auditorium at Santa Rosa High School, one of the schools facing the prospect of closing. Trustees decided to favor neutrality over capacity. The venue change means hundreds of people who want to attend the meeting could be turned away if they don’t get there early enough.
The council chambers only hold 180 people.
