Santa Rosa City Schools is still facing a budget crisis after choosing not to close any of its high schools.
On Friday night, district trustees voted five-to-one to keep Elsie Allen High School open, after it had been in severe danger of closing. The district will instead close three middle schools and eventually, a fourth. The district, facing a $20 million budget deficit before the closure plan was adopted, is still facing a deficit, since the full amount is not addressed by the closure plan.
Trustees still need to find another $2 million in savings elsewhere. That could mean upcoming staff cuts.
