Cardinal Newman’s Football Program Searching For New Head Coach

Cardinal Newman’s football program is searching for a new head coach. Richard Sanchez, who led the Cardinals to unprecedented success, including their first-ever North Coast Section Open Division playoff appearance, has resigned. He’s accepted the head coaching position at the University of La Verne, a Division III program in Southern California.

During his four seasons, Sanchez compiled an impressive 37-13 record, with three trips to the section title games. Athletic Director Monica Mertle says the school will conduct a nationwide search for his replacement, emphasizing they’ll take their time to find the right fit.

The current coaching staff will continue running the team’s offseason program. While former Cardinal Newman coach Paul Cronin’s name has been mentioned, he has stated he is not interested in returning.
