Petaluma Police Confirm First Ever Improper Gun Storage Arrest

The Petaluma Police Department is confirming its first ever arrest for alleged improper gun storage.

The arrest was made on Sunday night, following a routine probationary search of a home. Officers found an unsecured shotgun, which is a violation of Petaluma’s firearm storage ordinance. The person who was arrested is not the person police were there for to conduct the probationary search. Police say a minor under the age of 14 lives in the home and could have accessed the gun.

The gun storage law was unanimously passed by the Petaluma City Council in late 2022. It says all guns must be stored in a locked container or disabled with a locking device.
