Fire Pit Flash Fire in Windsor Leaves Six Hospitalized

Six people were hospitalized on Saturday night following a flash fire caused by a propane leak from a private fire pit in Windsor.

According to a report from The Press Democrat, around 8:45 p.m. on Castelleto Place, propane fumes that had accumulated in the fire pit’s storage cabinet ignited when the door was opened, mixing with the existing flames. The Sonoma County Fire District reported two individuals sustained moderate injuries and four others had minor injuries.

Fire Marshal Cyndi Foreman stated that the fire did not spread beyond the immediate area of the fire pit. Investigators determined the cause of the leak was a improperly aligned hose connecting to the propane tank. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, Henry-1, was in the vicinity but ultimately was not needed at the scene.
