The Press Democrat reports the Sonoma Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees is set to hold a pivotal meeting tonight, June 17th, where they are scheduled to vote on rescinding their earlier decision to close Flowery Elementary School at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
The May 8th vote to close Flowery sparked significant community outcry and calls for further review, including a formal Equity Impact Assessment. This reconsideration is expected to be a major focus of tonight’s meeting, which begins at 3:30 p.m. at the Sonoma City Chambers and is open to the public, also accessible online.
In addition to the Flowery Elementary discussion, the board will consider approving the district’s 2025-2026 budget and Local Control Accountability Plan. They will also revisit a $298,000 bid for blacktop improvements at Altimira Middle School, seeking more information on alternative, more durable options. The public will have opportunities to comment on agenda items throughout the meeting.
