Sonoma County is grappling with a concerning spike in drug overdose deaths.
The Press Democrat reports health officials confirmed a dozen fatalities in just the past two weeks, primarily men aged 19 to 49. Will Gayowski, with the county’s health department, has warned addiction service providers of potentially more toxic drugs circulating. Chris Geiger of Center Point DAAC reports a significant rise in positive fentanyl tests among clients, calling the increased deaths a “clarion call.”
With fentanyl being the leading cause of death for those under 50, county officials are urging extreme caution.
