Sonoma Valley Unified School District Investing In Arts Education

The Sonoma Valley Unified School District is now receiving about $500,000 annually for arts education, part of a new five-year Strategic Arts Education Plan.

The Press Democrat reports that the funds have allowed the district to hire two new full-time elementary music teachers and secure grants for musical instruments. While the district has already distributed over $936,000 across its schools for new staff and programs, some are calling for more.

But there have been concerns raised about measuring the actual instructional time students are gaining and the need for greater teacher involvement in how the funds are used.
