Sonoma State is expanding its guaranteed admissions program to include the Calistoga Joint Unified School District, and Napa Valley Unified is likely next. According to the Press Democrat, this program offers high school seniors a secured spot at SSU if they complete required coursework with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Calistoga’s superintendent says it “removes that stress” from college applications.
This initiative is not just about helping students; it’s also a key strategy for SSU to boost enrollment. Early results are promising: one partner district saw student interest in a four-year college jump from 71% to 95% after campus visits.
So far, 163 high school students and nearly 1,600 community college students have enrolled at SSU through this program. Sonoma State plans to keep expanding, mirroring a larger CSU system effort to make college more accessible and increase enrollment statewide.
