The Medicine Fire in northern Mendocino County has burned 285 acres of land and is 40 percent contained.
The fire started at about 3:30 Sunday afternoon, in Covelo. Two residential zones were placed under mandatory evacuation orders an hour later. There are no reports of injuries or property damage.
