Petaluma City Schools Facing Additional Budget Cuts

Petaluma City Schools is facing deep budget cuts, with an additional $1 million just approved for next school year, bringing the total reductions to $3 million.

The Press Democrat reports this comes as the district looks to cut another $4 million by the 2026-27 school year from its $137 million budget. Superintendent Matthew Harris cited unexpected federal funding freezes and deferred state payments as reasons for the tough decisions.

While some positions will be eliminated or restructured, officials assure no permanent staff will lose their jobs, with reassignments instead.
