Marin County Pond Project To Begin In October

Overgrown cattails are causing stagnant water and increasing mosquito risks at a 20 acre pond in northern San Rafael.

Officials with the Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District say the pond could become a breeding ground for mosquitoes that transmit West Nile virus. The district is launching a 111-thousand-dollar project to remove the vegetation, improve water circulation, and enhance wildlife access.

The three-week project is set to begin on October 15th.
