Napa Valley Unified School District Facing Sexual Assault Lawsuit

A lawsuit filed this month alleges a special education student was repeatedly sexually assaulted by a classmate over a period of more than a year while enrolled in a Napa Valley Unified School District program.

According to the Press Democrat, the lawsuit, filed in Napa County Superior Court, accuses the school district, two teachers, and Napa Valley College of negligence. According to the complaint, the student, who has been diagnosed with autism, was allegedly assaulted as many as ten times a month between October 2022 and November 2023.

The complaint claims that district staff witnessed some of the assaults but failed to report them to the victim’s parents or law enforcement. Instead, the lawsuit says, staff simply told the student not to let the classmate “do that” to him. A safety plan was allegedly put in place but failed to stop the assaults.

The Napa Valley Unified School District and Napa Valley College have not yet responded to requests for comment.
