Santa Rosa city officials are taking a cautious approach to a proposal that would close a portion of Fourth Street to vehicle traffic.
According to the Press Democrat, the idea, which has been debated for decades, would transform several blocks of the downtown street into a pedestrian-only zone. While some residents and urban advocates believe the move would create a vibrant destination, many business owners are concerned it would hurt their bottom line and create logistical issues.
The City Council has asked city staff to conduct more detailed studies on the potential impacts, including traffic and parking.
