A 26-year-old man has died nearly two weeks after being stabbed, marking Santa Rosa’s 12th homicide of the year.
Jacob Phillips was stabbed in the chest on Oct. 7 inside his West Third Street apartment and later placed on life support before dying Saturday.
Police say 27-year-old Robert Mendoza, an acquaintance and neighbor, stabbed Phillips during an argument before fleeing. Officers tracked Mendoza with a police dog and took him into custody near B and Fifth streets. He was treated for lacerations and booked without bail.
Prosecutors are considering amending Mendoza’s attempted murder charge to murder. The knife used in the attack has not been recovered.
