Downtown Barbecue, the Third Street eatery that closed briefly after announcing its shutdown for Halloween, has reopened under new leadership.
The Press Democrat reports co-owner Lowell Sheldon, who is stepping away, confirmed a local ownership group is taking over. This move keeps the restaurant open during final negotiations. A new chef is already running the kitchen, bringing some menu adjustments—including pizzas and new sides—while keeping the main barbecue concept. The staff remains employed.
Sheldon’s departure follows previous controversies surrounding the restaurant’s opening and his history with other local establishments.
The restaurant is currently open Wednesday through Sunday.
