A Windsor Middle School student discovered a loaded handgun at Foothill Regional Park during a field trip on Friday.
Per the Press Democrat, the student found the weapon concealed under branches and immediately alerted a teacher, who called police. The discovery comes nearly a month after a failed search in the same area following a nearby crash, where a teen driver had claimed to have discarded a weapon while running into the park.
Windsor Police have taken possession of the loaded firearm and believe it is the one they were searching for.
Officials are praising the quick thinking of both the student and the teacher.
