Waymo, the Google-spinoff company, has received key regulatory approval to dramatically expand its driverless robotaxi service across Northern California.
The Bay Area News Group reports the DMV has granted permission for Waymo to operate its autonomous vehicles throughout the entire Bay Area, extending northward into the North Bay, including Sonoma County up to Cloverdale, and eastward to Sacramento.
The expansion is the latest step for Waymo, which recently began offering service on Peninsula freeways and to Mineta San Jose International Airport.
While the company stated it looks forward to serving more Californians, a rollout date for the North Bay and Sacramento areas was not specified.
