Golden Gate Ferry Investing Over $100 Million In Fleet Overhaul

Marin’s Golden Gate Ferry is replacing its aging fleet with a massive investment of over $118 million.

The Marin Independent Journal reports the board approved a contract for the first two new high-speed vessels, promising passengers more reliable service, modern accessibility, and efficiency. The first replacement vessel, the Liwa, is set to arrive in 2027.

The new ferries are designed to be much greener, consuming 35% less fuel and sharply reducing emissions compared to current vessels.

Separately, the district is preparing for future demand by studying the expansion of service and parking at the busy Larkspur Landing terminal, with environmental reports expected next year.
