Sonoma County Supervisors Approve Plan For Permanent Memorial For 2017 Wildfires

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has approved the plan for a permanent memorial dedicated to the victims and survivors of the devastating 2017 wildfires.

The memorial will be created by renowned landscape sculptor Cliff Garten and will be placed in Nagasawa Community Park in Santa Rosa. The design process will intentionally involve a lengthy community engagement period starting in early 2026 to ensure the memorial reflects the experiences of fire survivors and the broader community.

The project aims to serve as a place for reflection and a tribute to resilience.
