Health officials say a mutation called GII.17 is driving a spike in “stomach flu” cases across San Francisco, Vallejo, and Silicon Valley.
Per the Bay Area News Group, this new strain is tougher for our immune systems to recognize and incredibly easy to catch—requiring as few as ten viral particles to make you sick.
While the illness usually passes in three days, doctors warn it can be dangerous for infants and seniors due to dehydration.
Two key things to remember: Hand sanitizer does NOT work against this virus; you must use soap and water. And if you’re sick, stay home and stick to electrolyte drinks.
