Sonoma County To Enter Negotiations With United Soccer League To Evaluate Fairgrounds For Stadium Development

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors approved a letter of intent with the United Soccer League to study the feasibility of building a new multi-purpose stadium at the County Fairgrounds.

The agreement launches a nine-month evaluation period to see if the site can host a five-thousand-seat stadium and a mixed-use entertainment district featuring housing and retail.

While the deal doesn’t commit any taxpayer funding for construction yet, the county has set aside 30-thousand dollars for legal reviews and public outreach. Board Chair Lynda Hopkins called it an exciting opportunity, while Fair officials emphasized that any new project must not interfere with year-round fair operations or emergency evacuations.

A series of public meetings is scheduled for early 2026 to gather community input before a final decision is made later that year.
