Authorities are warning the public to stay away from the lower Russian River following an ongoing spill of raw sewage from the Guerneville treatment plant.
Heavy storm runoff caused storage ponds to overflow early Tuesday, sending an unknown amount of untreated wastewater into the river and triggering a multi-agency response.
Residents are being urged to avoid all contact with the water and to immediately reduce their own wastewater use while crews work to manage the spill.
