Two firefighters from the Sonoma County Fire District have returned from a 12-day FEMA deployment to Washington state following catastrophic flooding caused by recent atmospheric rivers.
Per the Press Democrat, Battalion Chief Mike Stornetta and Captain Pablo Mendez joined a 43-person task force to perform search and rescue operations in neighborhoods where levee breaks left homes, businesses, and vehicles submerged.
The team faced extreme conditions, including freezing temperatures and the threat of snowfall, while assisting residents and unsheltered individuals displaced by the historic rising waters.
