4.2 Earthquake Hits Near Cloverdale Just After Midnight

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck just after midnight Thursday near Cloverdale, shaking homes across Sonoma, Mendocino, Napa, and Lake counties.

According to the Press Democrat, the tremor originated about two miles underground, and while most residents in Santa Rosa and St. Helena reported only weak shaking, those closer to the epicenter near Clear Lake experienced more moderate movement.

Fortunately, officials report only very light damage, and the USGS predicts a less than 15% chance of a significant aftershock over the next week.
