A Vallejo man has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison for a 2020 DUI collision that killed a Sausalito man and critically injured his wife.
According to the Press Democrat, 42-year-old Abdulhadi Awad was driving with a blood alcohol level more than double the legal limit when he ran a red light in Sonoma, striking the victims’ car at high speed.
The sentencing follows a five-year legal battle over Awad’s mental competency, concluding a case that District Attorney Carla Rodriguez says highlights the dangers of repeat offenders with untreated mental health issues.
